Feeding Ministry at the Cathedral

We are taught by Christ to love one another and to help those is in need.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus speaks these words: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Jesus calls us to see his face among all persons, but especially among those who are poor and forgotten and to afford them the same love and care that we would afford to him.

As a part of its outreach ministry to those who are homeless and hungry in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Cathedral is renewing its partnership with the University Hospitality Coalition. We will provide lunch in the Cathedral to those in need of a meal on the first Thursday of each month from 1 to 2 pm.

We will begin this Thursday, March 3, and anticipate that approximately 20 people will attend. We expect that this number will grow over time.

How can you help?

By volunteering to set-up, serve food, clean-up, or provide general support and encouragement of this ministry through your loving and attentive presence. Set-up will begin at 11:30, before the noon Eucharist, and clean-up will conclude by 2:30. Stay for all or part of the time as your schedule permits.

By contributing food:

  • Canned soups [low sodium preferred]
  • Clear juices
  • Cookies or brownies
  • Apples, pears, oranges, bananas
  • [Food may be brought to the Cathedral on Sunday morning or dropped off at Cathedral House during office hours before Thursday.]

By praying for the safety and well being of our sisters and brothers who live amidst the challenges of poverty and insufficient food and shelter.

Who should you contact to get involved?

Stacey Middleton

She can be contacted at staceym@philadelphiacathedral.org. or you may phone the Cathedral office at 215.386.0234, ext. 104

Thank you for supporting this vital ministry at the Cathedral.

Yours, in Christ,

The Very Judith A Sullivan Dean
