WEDNESDAY IN HOLY WEEK - OFFICE OF TENEBRAE
Location: Cathedral
Wed, 31 Mar 2010: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Tenebrae is a Latin word signifying “darkness”, “shadow” and ” obscurity”. The name of this day’s service is taken from the words of the Gospels describing the scene at Jesus’ death: Tenebrae factae sunt: Darkness covered the whole land when Jesus was crucified. Throughout the service, there is a progressive extinguishing of all lights in the church except one candle. The chanting of Psalms and the reading of lessons and prayers form a prolonged experience of abandonment, judgment and death, with an obscure hint of resurrection symbolized.
